Girl Rising and Education Panel Discussion

Join GW’s Chapter of She’s the First for a free showing of the Girl Rising Documentary and a discussion with women leaders in the field of education policy and education equality. Our multidisciplinary panel includes Dr. Joan Lombardi, Dr. Amita Vyas and Lindsay Brown.

Lindsay Brown is a STF alumna and winner of the Seventeen Magazine Cover Contest. Creator of the successful Tie-Dye cupcake sale that is now integral to STF fundraising nationwide, Lindsay led a She’s the First chapter at the University of Notre Dame. She has worked for girls’ education in countries around the world and is an advocate for educational rights.

Dr. Joan Lombardi is a Senior Fellow at American Progress. Dr. Lombardi is an international expert on child development and social policy. She currently serves as Senior Advisor to the Bernard van Leer Foundation on global child development strategies and to the Buffett Early Childhood Fund on national initiatives. She also directs Early Opportunities LLC, focusing on innovation, policy, and philanthropy.

Dr. Amita Vyas is an Assistant Professor at the George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services. She is the Director of the Maternal and Child Health Program in the Department of Prevention and Community Health, as well as a Board Member of the Girl Rising Foundation.
